I had this album for a few years and never gave it a decent crack. Now I'm trying to ween my self off it after listening to it at least once a day for the past two months...
They're one of the deepest soul bands I've found. It might be a bit depressing for some, but with 13 minute tracks and long instrumental progressions, it's the soul I was always looking for but could never find. For the peeps that know records: it's also produced by Dale Warren, and this was like his dream project, a concept album that would show cracker-soul fans (Motown) what was really up. Warren was an underrated producer and arranger, who died an alcoholic in obscurity. He was responsible for gems like Betty Lavette's "Let Me Down Easy" and early Isaac Hayes tunes on Stax.
